Composer

Biography & Philosophy

"I love the challenge of writing music to touch other people. I compose in a wide range of musical styles but I am particularly inspired by the uplifting sounds of chillout and electronica, and enjoy combining these styles with live instrumental recordings. I am passionate about travelling and hearing music from around the world, and often weave rhythms and melodies from other countries into my music. I seek wholeness and harmony, and aim to live a life which is simple and close to nature".

BIOGRAPHY

Born to American parents, Danielle Ballantine developed her love of music as a child around campfires in Woodstock, New York. She grew up in London and later went on to study singing at the Guildhall School of Music. Danielle now works as a freelance composer from her own studio in Oxford.

Danielle is lead singer and harpist in the folk band Elphin. She has been playing Celtic harp since she was 12 years old, and one of her most treasured possessions is the small lap harp that her father built for her.

Danielle has an MA in composing music for Film & TV as well as a BSc in Music. She is also a qualified teacher with ten years of experience, specialising in teaching music for three to eight year olds; in addition, she has run a very popular children's choir in London with up to 70 members.

In her music, Danielle combines the uplifting sounds of chillout and ambient groove with live instrumental recordings, creating music to relax, uplift and inspire. She has travelled widely and often weaves rhythms and instrumental melodies from other countries into her music.

Danielle has released 3 solo albums (Selkie 2007, This One Earth 2008, Songs of Wood 2009) as well as Ebb & Flow with her band Elphin. Plus she has recently been seen recording with The Kate Garrett Band!
